FROM
Keith E. Hirsch
Community Impact Officer
Greenwich Police Department

I just returned from the Glenville Center and the DPW Supervisor on site indicated that as long as no surprises pop up they are still on schedule to finish at approximately 3:00pm. They are just finishing the last couple of coats of asphalt and then the roadways will open shortly after they have finished. It should be noted that these crews worked around the clock to get this intersection repaired as quickly as possible, this was a great effort by the DPW and it should not go unnoticed.

This just in from Lt. Kraig Gray, Public Information Officer for GPD:

I was at scene and I have spoken with Anthony Franceschni he is a Utility Operation Supervisor for Aquarian Water Company. He related the following:

This is a major water main break that is going to require alot of manpower and equipment to resolve. The damaged water main has caused the pavement to buckle, but not give way across nearly the whole intersection directly in front of the Glenville Firehouse. The Glenville section of town will be without water during this repair. Like any emergency situation, the full extent of the problem can not be estimated until a significant portion of the work has already been completed. As of 2PM today he believes this going to be an all night operation BUT they should be done by the morning rush hour tomorrow Friday 07/29/11.

Area residents are urged to please be patient and to stay out of the area and take alternate routes.
